So courtesy goes to the Spanish Super Cup for bringing us our first El Clasico of the season, bearing well in mind that this is merely just the first leg. Barcelona were the home team however zizou was looking to get revenge on his two losses to the catalans last season AND look to win the first Clasico for madrid in 16 months. The pre season friendly between these two teams didn't disappoint hence we were all in for a great game.
In terms of the lineup for madrid there was only one change from the Uefa Super Cup as Luka Modric faced suspension thus it was his Croatian compatriot Kovacic that took his place instead. The rest of the team was the same as madrid began with a 4-4-2 formation in which Bale and Benzema started up front
First and foremost, the first half was unimportant due to the reason that all the action was in the second half. So where do I begin Pique opened the scoring for Real Madrid and if you're still wondering it was an own goal. Suárez took a dive in the box and won a penalty for barca which Messi wasn't going to lose out on. The man who stole the headlines was none other than cristiano ronaldo. He came on a couple minutes before the hour mark and his first controversy was a disallowed goal megging Ter Stegen. Then again that didn't stop him from scoring a grotesque curler from just inside the box. Ronaldo took off his shirt to show his figure and the referee figured to put his name in the book. Minutes later he was sent off for a second yellow after colliding with Umtiti in the box. Suffice it to say I have been contemplating a while and the only reason I can come up with as to why Ronaldo was sent off was because of that fanciful football and goal. When alls said and done though the game was far from over because Asensio was out to prove yet again that anything Ronaldo can do so can he. Thus he scored a copycat goal of Ronaldo's however Asensio's was with his left foot, off the crossbar and into the left corner.
All in all it will be an interesting second leg. Although Ronaldo will most likely be suspended even if madrid contest the second yellow as he pushed the referee in reaction to being booked after his dive. Stat of the night goes to both Ronaldo and Asensio this time. Ronaldo's stat is his goal which takes his tally of goals at the camp Nou to 11 (1 more than messi). Asensio's stat is his incredible continuation of scoring on debuts. He has now scored on his La Liga debut, his Champions League debut, his Uefa Super Cup debut, his Club World Cup debut and now his Spanish Super Cup debut.
